The Rain Tree is prized for its massive canopy and is one of the most widely planted shade trees in the tropics. Its small, showy pink and white flowers resemble powder puffs. The name "Rain Tree" comes from the belief that it causes 'rain' beneath its canopy due to the moisture released by its leaves or the sweet liquid that drips from insect activity. Its leaflets also fold up in the rain or at dusk.
