This tree has a very sculptural look and is often used as a specimen or hedge in coastal landscapes due to its salt tolerance. It produces pale pink to white flowers followed by a unique, nearly spherical green fruit that splits open to reveal orange seeds. It is a slow-growing tree that is also known for being an epiphyte (air plant) when young.
